Chapter 12
How to love God?
“To love God in the most practical way is to love fellow
beings. If we feel for others in the same way as we feel for our
own dear ones, we love God.”
“To love God in the most practical way is to love fellow
beings. If we feel for others in the same way as we feel for our
own dear ones, we love God.”
“If instead of robbing others to help ourselves, we rob
ourselves to help others, we are loving God.”
“If we suffer in the suffering of others and feel happy
in the happiness of others, we are loving God.”
“If instead of worrying over our own misfortunes, we
think of ourselves more fortunate than many many others, we
are loving God.”
“If we understand and feel that the greatest act of devotion
and worship to God is not to hurt or harm any of His
beings, we are loving God.”
“To love God as He ought to be loved, we must live for
God and die for God, knowing that goal of life is to love God,
and find Him as our own self.”
Baba’s instructions:
- Find a few minutes for seclusion. Observe silence for some time. Repeat His name with love or meditate by repeating prayers dictated by Avatar Meher Baba. All this has to be done whole-heartedly and not just as a discipline or practice or sadhana.
- Serve others and try not to get served by others. Not a single day should go when we have not served someone, some day. Avatar Meher Baba has said, “let your words be ‘Love and Serve’ and do not forget that His samadhi adorns the words ‘Mastery in Servitude.’”
- Try to make people comfortable at the cost of your own comforts. Baba has said, “Real happiness lies in making others happy.”
- Our single action in day to day life should not cause any harm to any of His being as the whole creation is His. He is the owner, so how can we dare to except to love all beings.
- Have childlike trust in God, and then only we can lead worry free lives.
- Be resigned to the will of God as there is a meaning of mercy. Behind all that happens in our lives, do not get dejected.
- Never miss your daily appointment with God.
- Always think that which is impossible for you, is possible for God; so trust Him and seek His help.
- Do all the work for the love of God and not for wages alone.
- Rejoice in everything that comes to you. Accept it as God’s blessings.
- Never seek respect, honour nor shun disgrace. If it comes to you, accept it all as His will.
- Live life for the love of God and not for yourself.
- Believe and achieve.
